Chimney Chase

Almost all chimneys have an air gap around them per building code.  Often these chases extend from the basement all the way up to the attic and are a highway of sorts for warm, conditioned air to escape.  Metal and fireproof caulk are used to seal up these huge heat loss areas in the air sealing process.

Can Lights/Recessed Lighting

Can lights are often installed in such a way that they are a large area for warm conditioned air to escape into the attic.  They also tend to give off large amounts of heat in the lighting process and can aid in creating an attic that is warmer than ideal.  They can also be a fire hazard in certain situations.  Excess warm air in the attic during cold weather months is not only a waste of money, but can also cause problems such as ice dams.

A special can light cover is used and air sealed to help stop this heat loss area.
